Unlike many of Paradox's other titles, theres plenty to do in victoria even when speed is lower, and as long as you have a player with a reliable connection, most people can accept that they need to rehost every hour or so. This is also why its adviced to run on slower speeds in multiplayer, as it means less information is needed to be sent between the players and the host.ĭue to all this, Out Of Sync errors (OOS), where one or more players didn,t recive the necessary information to update their game correctly is common, and is resolved by the host saving the game, rehosting and then all the players rejoining the rehosted game (thus all the players get the Host's game data). Becouse of this, it is highly adviced that the host have a good and stable connection to be able to handle all this traffic from multiple computers at once. Victoria 2 needs to constantly send information from/to the host game and the players: What did you pick in the events? How are your pops? Did you upgrade a factory? Troop orders and so on. Firewalls also block Victoria 2 connections, and this is why so many people like to use hamachi, as it ensures the connection between the host's computer and the players. Victoria 2 uses the ports TCP 1630-1639 and UDP 1630-1639 to send/recive data, and thus, if theese ports are not opened for the host's game to use, players wont be able to join the game. In theory any one can host, but as usual, there are limitations. The way this works, is that one of the players hosts the game, and the others then join this game using the hosts IP adress. If the scanner detects a LAN game, it will show it/them to you on the list in the multiplayer section of the menu.įor most however, Its the internet game that is the chosen option. As the metaserver is no longer operational, theres no point talking about that one, this means there are two options for MP games: Internet and LAN.
